Mbira Thumb Piano


 

Mbira are among the art forms in Africa They are used both as a musical instruments and as a fine sculptures significant in many ceremonial functions, which include dances, rituals and story-telling.  With sounding chambers, sounding holes ,and metal or cane keys played with the thumbs, hence the name "thumb piano". As seen in photos this piano has been played over and over nad over again. The player would place their hands which has created an indentation. Nice dark enriched patina. An initial has been engraved into the bottom and the back - "M". Could have been the start of the owners name. In excellent condition. Measures 11" x 6" x 1 1/2"
